Paediatric First Aid Course

To ensure that students are provided with up to date knowledge, in order to deal with and treat children and babies involved in accidents or who are ill
Objective:

To instruct students in techniques devised for all paediatric emergencies. To provide students with the training to carry out safe First Aid practices until the arrival of further medical aid.

Duration
12 hours contact time
All those who work with, or care for, young children and babies.
Aim:

Course Content:
• Resuscitation
• Choking
• Airway problems of paediatrics: Asthma, Croup, Epiglottitis
• Allergic reactions
• Burns and scalds
• Causes of unconsciousness: Febrile convulsions, Head injuries, Hypoxia, Drowning and
  Poisoning
• Wounds and bleeding
• Other medical emergencies: Fractures, Meningitis, Infection (Septicaemia), Stings and Bites,
  Earache

There is no examination for this course. Students will be assessed throughout the training and a certificate of attendance will be awarded to all students who have successfully completed the course.
