RLSS Rescue Award
This award provides you with the skills to support and act as back-up, to the Sports Centre's trained lifeguard team in the event of an incident. It will teach you how to deal with swimming pool based emergencies and also (and more commonly) minor incidents, without the risk of putting yourself or others in danger.
It will allow you to safely support the team of lifeguards should an incident occur and will give a background to why we have certain pool rules.
You will be trained in rescue skills, CPR, stabilisation of a spinal injury, and recovering of a casualty from the depth of 2 metres.
If you are responsible for taking others to the swimming pool, whether they are children, or adults with special needs, you will find this course useful . It will provide you with greater confidence and knowledge, that those in your care are safe. Course duration is 12 hours
Please note that there is ALWAYS a lifeguard present on poolside and that it will always ultimately be their responsibility to enforce pool rules and carry out rescues.
